To find the answer to this question, we engaged with the myriad of air purifying products on the market. As people running a range of businesses ourselves, we wanted to make sure we could welcome our staff and clients back to the office as quickly and as safely as possible as Australians begin to live with COVID.

It wasn’t just workplaces we wanted to protect; it was our homes too. We wanted to keep our families and guests safe. But even with a background in air quality we were left with more answers than questions.

Do air filters work? Do I need to replace my current air conditioning system? What is better, passive or active purification? What are acceptable levels of ozone?

The more research we did, the clearer it became that a lot of the products currently available just don’t offer enough, if any protection for people to confidently transition back into shared indoor spaces.

The key limitation of the most commonly available systems such as HEPA filters and UVC lamps is that they are passive air filtration systems. In simple terms, this means they wait for contaminants to pass through a filter and it’s only at the point of filtration that the air is truly clean.
